The Studio

Reel Time began in Chicago, where Mark Ignoffo ran a basement studio in the late 1980s. In 1989 he engineered the first Smashing Pumpkins demos there, sessions that surfaced on the Moon tape and the 2011 Gish reissue, and Billy Corgan credited that basement room when he accepted the TEC Innovation Award in 2026.[1][2][3] Ignoffo moved the studio to Florida in February 1990 and incorporated Reel Time Recording, Inc. that June,[1][4] and that year the DeLand band Chestaine recorded in the new Holly Hill room, Billy Bruce reported in The Volusian.[5] Through the 1990s the studio at 939 Carswell Avenue recorded much of the Central Florida hardcore and punk scene: Bloodlet from 1993 for its Victory Records releases, and Denature, Commonplace, Greening, Dristan, Gray Before My Eyes, Dragbody and Song of Kerman.[6][7] In 1993 it produced Latitude 29, a compilation of 13 Central Florida modern-rock bands that Rick de Yampert wrote up for the Daytona Beach News-Journal, while Billboard's directories listed one room with 32-track analog recording.[8][9] Three years later John Bozzo found it booked four to six weeks ahead, half its clients driving in from Orlando, and Ignoffo, who had bought the equipment and 500 master tapes of the closed Tape South, planning a $25,000 expansion.[10] The business later moved to 529 Ridgewood Avenue in Holly Hill (2005 to 2012), to North Halifax Avenue in Daytona Beach (2013 to 2016) and by early 2017 to 192 Vining Court in Ormond Beach, where Reel Time works mainly as a duplication and transfer house that still records, mixes and masters.[4][11]
